Edessa

Edessa
The County of Edessa, established in 1098, was the first Crusader state and the most exposed. While primarily associated with Baldwin of Boulogne, it had links to Norman networks through intermarriage and military alliance. Its fall in 1144 triggered the Second Crusade.
