Dyrrachium
The Battle of Dyrrachium (modern Durrës, Albania) in 1081 saw Robert Guiscard defeat the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos. This audacious campaign on the Via Egnatia demonstrated Norman willingness to challenge the Eastern Roman Empire directly.
