Melfi
Early Norman capital in Italy. Long-form companion to the Norman Expansion pin (Italy & Sicily).
Melfi
Melfi served as the first Norman capital in southern Italy. Here, in a series of councils (1042–1059), the Norman adventurers formalized their conquests. Pope Nicholas II invested Robert Guiscard as Duke of Apulia and Calabria at Melfi in 1059, legitimizing Norman rule.
